Umbria (oom' bree ah)
It is said that in six centuries, the flames of Umbrian kilns have never been extinguished. This is a good thing, because demand for the majolica from these kilns grows only more intense.
With their brilliant, handpainted colors, graceful terra cotta forms, and elegant designs, Umbria patterns have been a favorite of VIETRI collectors for many years. There are currently six Umbria patterns to collect, love, display, and dine upon. These meticulous designs, painted on Umbrian majolica since the 1300's, reflect the influence of those first sea traders to Venice from the East. For over eight centuries, these patterns have remained Italian classics. A center medallion is featured on salad plates and pasta soup bowls in all six patterns, along with an historically true medallion exclusively on the Deruta cereal bowl. Deruta, Falco, Michelangelo, Pavone, Perugia and Spello Verde.
